I believe this is there in the Mac version, but do not know. In the Windows version of Word, there is an option in the AutoCorrect Options to automatically use suggestions from the Spelling Checker. In many instances, it is really not smart enough to tell what you mean when you have a typo. I.e., in English, "hte" will be changed to "the."ĪutoCorrect in Word works quickly and silently, without any notice to the user. I believe that, by default, Word will not automatically change spelling errors unless they are in the AutoCorrect table for corrections. There would be nothing to be doneįirst, I strongly recommend that you do a Google search for "AutoCorrect." Artificial intelligence for this is in its infancy. If it is marking it as misspelled, it is functioning as designed. I started my response with " I am assuming you mean that obviously misspelled words are not being flagged." It appears this assumption is incorrect.

Please try, in a document with one of these major spelling errors, clicking in the Word. Nevertheless, I hope that I can be of some help. While I've used Word on a Mac, that was a long time ago. That version is similar, but the two are not the same. I do not have a Mac and am writing from my experiences with the Windows version. This may be specific to the Mac but this is a problem that occurs in the Windows versions as well.
